Making the Training Count- Yinka's Great North Run Fundraiser for the Sheffield Children's Hospital and the Sheffield Hospital Charities ( Sheffield Health Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust)

I am Dr Olayinka Fadahunsi-Oluwole, an Ambassador of the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity and in my final year as a Non-Executive Director at the Sheffield Health Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust. I trained to run the Great North Run, but unfortunately, due to specialist medical advice about a recent eye concern, I had to withdraw from the race on the 13th of September. I am disappointed, but medical advice must be respected. I am keen that my training counts, as  I did a practice run of 24km (more than a half marathon) on the 22nd of August. This can be seen on Strava. I am especially keen to raise money for the Emergency Department at the Sheffield Children's Hospital, as emergency medicine for children all over the world is crucial. As someone with lived experience, I have seen children die due to a lack of emergency medicine and facilities in Nigeria. Our facilities in Sheffield need expansion and modernisation, and following on from our helipad, this is a natural next step. 
At Sheffield Health Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust, we are leading the way in research, innovation and human rights, and it is my wish to support the Trust in this quest, especially as I am in my final year as a Non-Executive Director. I hope to run the Great North Run next year, but would be grateful for your support in recognition of the unfortunate circumstances this year.
