Si Gillespie is raising money for HAWES DOWN PRIMARY SCHOOL PTA
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundrasing page.
As some of you are aware I have done a couple of runs for charity over the last year - 10k, Half-marathon to date. The natural progression was then to attempt a marathon! Well I will be taking the next leap on the 9th October when I will attempt to complete the Mersey Marathon. Ok so now you have stopped laughing!!!!!!!! Read on.
I will be running the marathon to raise funds for my daughters (Honey) school (Hawes Down Junior School) and specifically her class (Class WM). As many of you are probably aware Honey was born with a rare condition called Apert Syndrome which means she has a lot of needs; one of which means she attends a special educational needs unit. Class WM. Class WM is located within a mainstream junior school and Honey moved up to the class from the infants in September 2010. When Honey first started school she was a very very shy little girl and would not participate in any of the group activities the class would undertake but due to the amazing work of the both the infants and junior school she has really blossomed in the last 4 years. They have nurtured her and built up her confidence to a level myself and Em would not have imagined at times in the early years. This has resulted in Honey obtaining both academic and social skills that will help her towards leading a happy and rounded life with hopefully as much independence as possible. In view of this myself and Em felt we wanted to give something back to the school to show our appreciation. Earlier this year Em went into the school and helped to create the basis for a sensory garden outside the classroom for WM. My part is to now run the marathon and raise the necessary funds so we can complete the task and buy the required sensory equipment.
I appreciate things are tight for a lot of people these days due to recession but if you feel you would like to sponsor me and ultimately help the school/class in its amazing work that would be fantastic
Many thanks in advance
