Alzheimers and vascular dementia affects nearly half a million people in the UK.
For those that suffer, simply forgetting a loved one's birthday, or the name of an old pet can be frustrating and cause upset, anger and depression.
Diagnosis is often difficult as the mental decline of those with dementia can be gradual, and often well hidden. For those on the outside looking in, friends, family members - the change in that person often appears far quicker, often taking them by surprise.
My grandfather passed away having been diagnosed with Alzheimers over 20 years ago, taken from his loving family far too early. I jumped out of an aeroplane then, and I plan to do the same again - now that my family are suffering the same heartbreak with my grandmother.
My Nan Jean has been the rock of our family - with four children, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
In little under a year, we have seen her decline at a rate that no one saw coming. One minute in her garden celebrating the Queens Jubilee, the next visiting her in a care home.
Research into this terrible disease can only continue with significant funding, and so my aim is to raise as much as possible to help.
Please give as much or as little as you can - all will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
