Smile for Joel Dragon Boat Race 2026

For the third year running, staff from Wood Green Academy are taking to the water to compete in dragon boat racing, raising money for Smile For Joel,  a charity set up to support families devastated by murder and terrorism. Smile For Joel was founded after the tragic loss of Joel Richards, a much‑loved Sixth Form student at Wood Green, who was killed in the 2015 Tunisian terror attacks along with his brother, grandfather, and uncle. The charity now provides emotional, practical, and financial support to families facing traumatic bereavement, as well as promoting safety awareness and community resilience.
We are incredibly proud to support a cause born from such heartbreak yet dedicated to helping others rebuild their lives. As we return to the water, we’re hoping it’s third time lucky for a win  but more importantly, we’re aiming to raise as much as possible for a charity that means so much to our school community.
