My story
In April 2020, I was all set to mark a significant birthday by walking the 96 miles of the St Oswald’s Way. Arriving by train at Hexham a short bus journey would have taken me to Wall. I would then have set out from Heavenfield at one end of the walk arriving five days later at Lindisfarne.... but then came COVID!
Five years later, and after a roller-coaster of challenges, emotions and unexpected turns, I have recommitted myself to the walk and chosen Dementia Forward as the beneficiary. Myself and Dementia Forward have crossed paths in a number of ways over the years so I am delighted that I have this opportunity to give back.
I have set a modest target of £2,000, but would love to crash though this as we approach the start of the walk on the 19th of May.

I am now close to the destination with only the last 19 miles to Holy Island to complete on Dementia Forward’s special hat day! There's still time to donate if you haven't had chance to already. Thank you in advance.
After a slight detour back to Northallerton for an extraordinary meeting which my contribution was important, I returned to my departure point just after 1pm with 17 miles to cover. Better get going!
Morning of day 2 - the long and winding paths...
Yesterday's 19 miles saw a delightful 5 miles of Hadrian's Wall and then lots of shared reiver's routes, frequented by modern 2-wheel version of the originals.
Today will see me pass through Rothbury and beyond...
..and I'm off. Day one commences!
