Our story

Our event is walk along Moray's coastline from harbour to harbour where we will complete daft and fun challenges.

We are a group of friends and colleagues of Susanne McLaren who has been going through cancer treatment. Susanne would like to make a donation to two charities who have helped her through her treatment. She was diagnosed with cancer many years ago, and the treatment at the time worked well. She showed no signs of disease until a couple of years ago. On its return both the cancer and the treatment has made her very unwell.

During the treatment she has relied on the Scottish Ambulance Service to help transport her to and from hospitals in Moray and Aberdeen. She has also relied on Oncology staff to help her while going through the treatment. Oncology staff are supported by Friends of Anchor (Aberdeen) and Susanne would like to make a donation to both of these charities through the event that we are hosting.

If you would like to support the great work these two organisations do then please come along on the 3rd May and/or donate what you are able.

Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Scottish Ambulance Service Endowment Funds (Scotland) and Friends Of Anchor.

Our updates

Our next Hoolie walker is Mike McGlynn. He has known Susanne for about 15 years through work and personal lives. He visits with her regularly and keeps us up to date with the news. Mike recently travelled through Europe by rail and is an Aromatherapist.

With just over a month to go until the big day, we should maybe introduce you to the team who are taking on the Hoolie on the 3rd May.

Let's start with Amanda Reid. She has known Susanne for 13 years while working at UHI Moray. Amanda is a member of the local Coastguards, she is a professional reflexologist and she is getting married this summer.

The map at the top of our poster shows the route (roughly) that we are taking.

A great team pull together here, that said, it's nothing out of the ordinary for you all :). I look forward to receiving the updates along the way in the planning and of course the big event. Susanne is such a huge part of the IH team and of UNITED, and know that this is meaning so much to her. Super stars comes to my mind.

I know i can speak for our whole cohort - we absolutely loved having Susanne as our lecturer and so sorry to hear of these awful struggles. It’s lovely to see such a fantastic, supportive group around her. All the very best for the walk x
