My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I have set myself a challenge to swim outdoors for 50 hours throughout the month of September.

I will keep track of how many minutes/hours I swim each day and record everything here on this page and also on my Instagram 'swim diary' (@yorkwildswimmer).

I've chosen 50 hours as I think this will be a big challenge and will require me to swim daily and in most cases twice per day. I have been swimming outdoors regularly for the past few years, but to put this challenge into context, I usually try and swim 2 - 3 times a week for about 45 minutes each time, and do less than this in Winter. (So only about 9 hours a month at most.)

The temperature will play a big part as if it’s particularly cold it limits the amount of time I can spend in the water in one session.

Although there are so many excellent causes to raise money for, on this occasion I have chosen to raise money for Dementia Forward. As most of us know, dementia is an incredibly cruel disease which has a devastating impact on the families affected.

Dementia Forward is the leading dementia charity for York and North Yorkshire. They provide support, advice and information to anybody affected by dementia across the county.

Anything I can do to help Dementia Forward raise vital funds and improve care and support for families facing dementia will be really worthwhile.

If you're in a position to donate even a small amount then I'd be extremely grateful.
