THAMES KAYAK CHALLENGE 2026

The coming academic year will be a year of purpose and action. I will be extending my degree programme to work with the Johnson Beharry VC Foundation, dedicating my time to supporting its mission to protect young people affected by violence across London. The decision to take this additional year reflects my commitment to contributing directly to work that addresses youth violence and, most importantly, creates meaningful opportunities for young people who are at risk.
A key part of my work with the Foundation will be supporting the launch of a new initiative aimed at safeguarding children who are vulnerable to violence. The project seeks to intervene at a critical stage in their lives, providing the support, stability and direction needed to help them move beyond circumstances that place them at risk. I will be working alongside the Foundation to help establish and deliver this initiative, contributing to its wider objective of creating safer environments and better prospects for young people across London.
I wanted to begin this commitment by taking on a challenge that would both raise funds and draw attention to the importance of the work being undertaken. On Friday 11th September at 2:30pm, I will set off from Battersea and kayak along the River Thames to Greenwich, aiming to complete the journey by 5:30pm. I will be joined by a group of individuals who share the same commitment to supporting the Foundation and its work with vulnerable young people.
The funds raised will contribute directly towards the Foundation’s programmes and the development of this new initiative, helping to provide young people at risk with access to protection, guidance and practical support. For me, this challenge represents the beginning of a year dedicated to making a tangible contribution to an issue that continues to affect communities across London. Any contribution, whatever its size, will help the Foundation extend its reach and provide vital support to young people who need it most.
