Max's Marathon for Moldova!
Event date: 14th July 2024
Maxim Marcenco is raising money for St Gregory's Foundation
My story
My name is Maxim Marcenco and I am thrilled to be participating in this year’s XTERRA Snowdonia Trail Marathon to support St Gregory's Foundation. As someone who has always believed in the power of community and the importance of giving back, I am excited to take on this challenge and contribute to a cause that is close to my heart.
I grew up in Moldova, the second poorest country in Europe and through my mum’s work with local charities, I’ve had a chance to travel throughout the country and meet disadvantaged children and people in dire need. This made a profound impact on me. At the age of 7, I even attempted to become an English interpreter for an international team from the Red Cross! :-)
This year, I want to give my running a greater purpose by using it to raise awareness and funds for autistic children in Moldova. For many years in our country, children with autism were diagnosed as mentally retarded. Because of this, most autistic children missed the window of opportunity for early detection and intervention. Many have been placed in institutions because of lack of adequate community support, insufficient finances or neglect of parents. Now the situation is slowly changing thanks to local NGOs that are helping families with children with special needs. St Gregory’s Foundation, a UK charity I’ve been supporting over the years, work with a few of the local charities in Moldova to help them provide therapy, support and a positive social network.
A bit about myself: I have always enjoyed staying active, whether it’s through running, hiking, or playing sports. Over the years, I have found that running not only helps me stay fit but also serves as a wonderful way to clear my mind and push my personal limits. Training for the marathon has been an incredible journey so far, filled with early morning runs, long-distance treks, and moments of doubt that have only strengthened my resolve.
I am inspired by the thought of making an effort to help children with autism and motivated every day by the generosity and support of people like you.
By contributing to my fundraising campaign, you are not only helping me cross the finish line but raising funds for a great cause. I would really appreciate if you could donate whatever you can to help me reach my target of £500!
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Together, we can make a difference!
Warm regards,
Maxim Marcenco
