Thomas Read fundraising walk 2022

Event date: 21st October 2022

Thomas Read bursary and the NCTJ are raising money for National Council For The Training Of Journalists

Our story

On Friday, 21 October, the NCTJ, Read family and supporters of the Journalism Diversity Fund will be embarking on a sponsored walk to raise money for the Thomas Read bursary.

The NCTJ team will be embarking on a 12km walk around Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages.

We are aiming to raise £4,000 for the Thomas Read bursary, which was set up in the memory of the young Sky Sports News journalist Thomas Read, who died unexpectedly in 2015. Thomas was an inspirational young journalist who, in spite of his cerebral palsy, achieved a substantial amount in the field of journalism in a short space of time.

Each year the bursary is awarded through the Journalism Diversity Fund to an aspiring journalist with a disability or long-term physical or mental illness, funding their NCTJ journalism training.

Please support this very worthy cause to help people with disabilities train to be journalists.
