My story

Celebrate food, culture and community while supporting local people in need.

On Wednesday 21 October at 12:00pm, Tideway colleagues are invited to come together for a World Food Day Pot Luck Lunch.

What is World Food Day?

World Food Day is a global awareness day led by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), celebrated annually in October to raise awareness of hunger, food insecurity and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to safe, nutritious food. It is also an opportunity to recognise the role that food plays in bringing people and communities together.
You can learn more about World Food Day here:

What is a Pot Luck?

A pot luck is a shared meal where everyone contributes a dish for others to enjoy. It is a wonderful way to discover new foods, celebrate different cultures and connect with colleagues over a shared table.
As discussed at the recent Town Hall, the event will celebrate the diversity of our workforce by encouraging colleagues to bring food from their own cultural background or a cuisine they love.

How to Take Part

If you'd like to contribute, please bring along a homemade or shop-bought dish to share with colleagues.
Some ideas include:

  • Family recipes and traditional dishes
  • Regional specialities
  • Street food favourites
  • Sweet treats or savoury snacks
  • Vegetarian, vegan or plant-based dishes from around the world

Where possible, we'd encourage colleagues to support local food markets, independent shops and community businesses when purchasing ingredients.

Food Safety and Allergens

To help everyone enjoy the event safely, all dishes must be clearly labelled with:

  • The name of the dish
  • Any allergens (e.g. nuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, shellfish, soy, sesame)
  • Whether the dish is:
    • Vegetarian
    • Vegan
    • Halal
    • Kosher
    • Gluten-free
    • Dairy-free

If you're unsure whether an allergen may be present, please include it on the label.

Supporting Our Local Community

To enjoy the pot luck lunch, we ask colleague to make a £5 donation.
All proceeds will be donated to Southwark Foodbank, which supports local people facing hardship and provides emergency food parcels across Southwark. The foodbank is run by charity Pecan and supports around 100 households each week.
