Ponthafren Association is raising money for Ponthafren
I have received a number of calls asking what I would like as a birthday present. The answer is nothing. However grateful I would be for a birthday gift, at my great age I happily have everything I need. I am also getting into declutter mode, having accumulated huge quantities of 'stuff' over my life. The fact that you are joining me is present enough!
For those that still want to do something - and I would stress there really is no need - for seven years I was a Trustee and Chair of a small, local, independent, mental health charity, Ponthafren Association, which helps anyone who, for whatever reason - mental issues, bereavement, drugs, alcohol, etc. - feels isolated in the 'community'. If anyone still does want to give me a present, I would therefore be really happy if a contribution, however small, could be sent to Ponthafren - see details below. They do fantastic work - see their website - pontahfren.org.uk.
Ponthafren is a Wellness Learning and Recovery Centre, providing courses and counselling, with a stunning garden on the edge of the River Severn (Hafren) in nearby Newtown - it also has branch in Welshpool - helping up to 500 people each week. Unusually it is a member run organisation with all its 1,000 members, who pay £2 a year, having a real say in what it does.
One major project of Ponthafren is to establish a fund to deliver professional counselling services to individual members. The people who will access this service would not be able to afford help elsewhere; private counselling being beyond the reach of the client group that Ponthafren supports. Without this service many members would suffer in silence. Volunteer counsellors also deliver sessions in the evenings, in order to ensure that an accessible service is provided to people who would otherwise be unable to access it during the day, because of work or family commitments. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you.
