Tom Morgan - Slaying the Dragon 2022

Event date: 5th September 2022

Tom Morgan is raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity

My story

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is one of the cruellest diseases imaginable - it robs you of your ability to walk, to use your hands, swallow, speak or hug your loved ones. Yet it leaves intact all your intellect and your senses – sight, hearing, smell – so you are able to watch your body waste away.

Inspired by Rob Burrow, I will be raising money to directly benefit people living with MND.

On 5th September 2022 I will run the world's toughest mountain race, the 'Dragon's Back Race' down the spine of Wales from Conway Castle in the North to Cardiff Castle in the South running 380km in 6 days, averaging 63km a day with a height gain of 17,400m – equivalent to 1 ½ marathons a day and a height twice the height of Everest above sea level.

Your support will be split equally between the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND supporting people living with MND and their families, and the MND Association which funds multi-disciplinary care delivered at the Centre and others across the country, as well as research into potential treatments for the disease.

This will be the biggest challenge of my life but nothing compared to the challenge that sufferers like Rob Burrow face.

Please help defeat this horrible disease by making a small donation- thank you.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Not long now and the packing is almost done - there is no turning back! The excitement is building for this incredible journey. The weather forecast looks awful but hey this is the toughest race and it always rains in Wales. If anyone wants to track me during the event: live.opentracking.co.uk/dragonsbackrace2022/ I am bib number 181 - use the envelope icon that will appear on top menu bar to send me messages of support I will need them! Thank you all for your kindness you are all awesome. Tom

Thank you all for your amazing generosity - I am touched by your kindness - thank you. With less than 5 weeks to go, the training is going well bar a few niggles which I am entitled to at my age! and I recently managed 150km in the Brecon Beacons over 3 days - packing is now underway and I am in the advanced stages of planning for what is a logistical challenge and not just a physical one :-)
