My story

Welcome to my fundraising page you generous people.

Wow, wow and wow...the generousity of people on here has absolutely astounded me with the total so far easily topping the £500 target and thats not even including 'Gift Aid', 'Give As You Live' and the donation pots in Wonersh Stores and Grantley Arms. I'll put the final totals here or email you when i have them.

So i completed the race but not without my fair share of uncomfort from my wetsuit strangling me during the swim, cramp in the calves during the cycle and stitches pretty much as soon as i started the run. It was a brilliant day though, maybe a little hotter than i would have preferred and i've inevitably spent the last 36 hours or so in recovery.

My final times were....1hr 34mins 37secs which meant i was 458th out of 1175 that took part in the same discipline. I didn't make my target time of 1.5hrs but i was in the top half and not far off the top 3rd so i'm not too dissapointed....there's always something to aim for next year.

1 Day To Go.....With basically 25 hours to go till i'm taking my first sip of Thames River water i'd like to put here how calm, ready and prepared i am but today is essentially me running round ticking things off a checklist i've got...and in no way is it a short list, so here's another tick and i'll get back to this later....arrrrggghhh

8 Days To Go....Just done my first bit of open water swimming today at Frensham Pond...i'll paint the picture for you - Me, a full body wetsuit, a family of swans and more blue and green algae than you'd find in a blue and green algae farm...

10 Days To Go....Its fair to say training so far has gone from one extreme to the other and not in the Bear Grylls kind of way either. Last week for example i ran 10km and cycled 70 off-road miles in the space of 3 days then proceeded to drink more alcohol than i think i've consumed all year and get less sleep than Mr Insomniac from Insomnia, all in the space of 4 days, whilst at Ken and Jenny's wedding.

Here's hoping for a more 'athletic' week this week.

So, basically I will be taking part in the London Triathlon this year, which will consist of a 750 metre swim in the Thames River, a 20km cycle around the city and a 5km run, with the start and finish point being around the Docklands area. I'm honestly not sure how i've ended up signing up to compete in this but now I have, I thought I may as well attempt to raise some money for a good, charitable cause...and this is where The Wall project comes in.

The Wall runs along the perimeter of the Wonersh Church Green, home for many years to the Grantley family and later members of the Thomas Cook family, of travel agent fame, but is now sadly in decline as trust funds set up to look after it are no longer sufficient.

Donating money to The Wall project is very simple from here and just takes a couple of clicks and a minute of your time.

I am super grateful for any amounts donated as The Wall project really needs your help....and it will definitely help me pluck up the courage to throw myself into the Thames for the first leg of the Triathlon.

More details of The Wall project and the Church Green Trust can be found out here wonershchurch.org.uk/churchgreen.htm and you can keep up to date on my suffering in the build up to the London Triathlon right here on this page.

Thanks again for getting involved - you good good people....
