Shrewsbury Food Bank Trolley Dash & Marathon

Event date: 23rd June 2013

This page is raising money for BARNABAS COMMUNITY CHURCH

My story

On Sunday 23rd June Shrewsbury hosts its first Marathon.

We have a team of people running the Shrewsbury Half Marathon, pushing a shopping trolley containing basic foodstuffs.

The Trolley Dash Team is Dave Matthias, Gavin Hogarth, Liz Blackbourn, Matt Taylor and Phil Downward.

Rachel Barber is doing the half marathon in support of this as part of a team from Barclays Bank in Shrewsbury, whose members are running for different charities.

In 2012 Barnabas Community Church borrowed over £100,000 towards the purchase of a new multi use community projects building (pictured).

This is the home of Shrewsbury Food Bank, and Barnabas Money Advice, as well as future community projects including the soon to be launched Eclipse Child Bereavement Counselling Service.

The building has a large food store, 3 consultation rooms, reception, office, toilet and kitchenette. Many local people visit every week to receive friendship, practical support and advice.

We would like to raise finance towards paying off the captial sum, in order the reduce the ongoing burden of paying the interest on the loan. This interest cost is still far cheaper then commercial rent for such a useful and important facility.

Shrewsbury Food Bank accepts donations of long life food and household goods Monday- Friday 9am-5pm, and distributes food to over 30 local people / families every week.
