My story

Hi,

Vascular EDS (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) is a rare genetic disorder which affects tissues, arteries and internal organs making them extremely fragile, its estimated to affect 1 in 90,000 people. Annabelle's Challenge is a UK registered charity who provide support to patients and families touched by vascular EDS.

Having recently taken up running as a hobby I'm hoping to run the distance between Manchester and Basel over the course of 2020 (approx. 1000 km by air!) and for every km I manage to do I will donate £1 in support of the charity. I'm starting the challenge at the end of May with a distance of 260 km ... so have a little way to make up over the rest of the year!!

If you would like to support me in this challenge then please contribute any size donation and I'll be posting regular updates as the year progresses.

Thanks,

Paul.

My updates

Good progress through October too, I managed 237km. Unfortunately I fell quite badly on the last run of the month and look like I've done something to my lower chest. Have to see how things go in November but almost there now!

Total as of 9th November is 910km

I managed to exceed my plans in September and completed 227km so definitely back on track to hit my target by the end of the year ... although its starting to get a bit wet and cold!

Total as of 10th October is 730 km

Back up to speed in August ... I managed 122 km and am aiming to achieve 30 to 40 km per week through September.

Still possible to get to 1,000k but will mean running every day for the rest of the year, so I'll have to see how it goes this month.

Total as of 9th September is 470 km

Sadly my swollen ankle turned out to be worse than I thought and was due to a tendon strain which left me unable to run or walk long distances for 8 weeks ...

Fortunately as of the end of July I managed to get back to running on 31st July and am now running pretty much every day again. However, it means my distance has taken a hammering and I have only managed 8.9 km through the whole of June and July.

Anyway things are picking up again through August so I will be making another donation at the end of the month, however, 1000k is looking quite a stretch now!

My first update to cover the month of May ...

Firstly, thank you to everyone who donated in the last week or so since the page went live, and to those who have said they will donate a little later on - your support is much appreciated!

In general things are off to a reasonable start and I managed to cover 98.5km in May, helped in no small measure by the amazing weather we have been having! Overall I'm pretty positive that I can make the miles up through the year and the first challenge is to find the extra 10km in June to meet my target distance. At the moment the only thing that's concerning me is my swollen ankle and juggling how long to rest it without running vs how to keep the distance up ... let's see how it fares this week!
