GERTRUDE CHINEGWUNDOH is raising money for THE CONGREGATION OF THE MISSION (ABBEY WOOD)
Event dates: 18th December 2010 – 31st July 2012
I am supporting this new UK charity because of the wonderful work that the Congregation of the Mission does worldwide. I have visited some of their projects in Nigeria eg. schools and seminaries and was highly impressed by what I saw.
The Congregation of the Mission (Abbey Wood) aims to support the disadvantaged, mainly in the UK and Nigeria.
I am helping to raise £1,000 to purchase desperately-needed hearing aids and American Sign Language resources for a school for the deaf in Oraifite, Anambra State, Nigeria, that is run by the Vincentians in Nigeria.
The Congregation of the Mission, popularly known as the Vincentians, or the Lazarists, is a Roman Catholic Missionary Congregation of Apostolic Life, founded by St. Vincent de Paul in France in 1625. Its objective, among other things, is to alleviate as far as possible the sufferings of people anywhere, but particularly the marginalised in the areas of education, health, spirituality or social emancipation without discrimination of age, gender, race or religion.
I believe that as a part of their hallowed values, the Vincentian trustees of this charity will be honest stewards of all resources entrusted to them by donors for the purpose for which this charity is established. They will be openly accountable to donors, recipients and the public.
