Walking / running 100 miles in May to raise money for melanoma charities and research

This May, I'm aiming to walk / jog 100 miles to raise money for the Melanoma Focus and SKCIN charities, as part of #MelanomaAwarenessMonth.
 
“100 Miles in May” is an annual fundraising event for these two brilliant charities, who commission and fund research for new treatments and clinical trials, provide vital support for patients with Melanoma, and raise awareness and understanding about Melanoma and the importance of sun safety! 😎

As many of you know, I have been a Melanoma patient since early 2023. Last year I went through extensive surgery, radiotherapy and immunotherapy treatment, and became a Stage 4 patient which was a huge shock.

I started on a clinical trial in September 2025, as treatment was not working for me and my cancer was continuing to grow and spread.  Thankfully I have started responding to treatment, and I very much hope this will continue! I will remain on the clinical trial for another 18 months, dealing with daily side effects and regular hospital visits.

Taking part in “100 Miles in May” is a great opportunity for me to do something positive to raise money and raise awareness about Melanoma, whilst having some fun getting outside and keeping active.

Around 1 in 40 people in the UK will develop Melanoma, and around 15,500 people are diagnosed every year, yet 86% of cases are preventable if people are safe in the sun and look after their skin. If caught early it can be treated effectively, but later diagnosis can mean spread to other parts of the body, extensive treatment, and poor outcomes.
