We're walking to New York

Hi everyone,
 
We are a team of employees who work at First Response Finance and this October, our team of 16 are taking on a big challenge. We’re walking the equivalent distance from the UK to New York City to raise money for Care UK.
 
That’s 3,470 miles (or around 6.9 million steps).
 
Our mission starts on 1st October and we’re doing it all by 15th December!
 
It means each of us needs to walk around 5,700 steps every single day rain or shine, weekdays and weekends. No flights involved, just feet, determination, and some questionable Spotify playlists.
 
We’ve chosen to take this on to help Care UK during what can be a particularly difficult time of year. The festive season can be incredibly tough for those in need, and we want to do our part to make things a little easier for them.
 
We're all really determined and have  our smart watches/phone or pedomiters ready there are even some walking pads thrown in there too
 
Every donation, big or small, helps motivate us and makes a real difference to the charity.

At CARE UK Charity, we provide free essential items to individuals and families living in crisis across Warrington and the surrounding areas.
 
That includes people fleeing domestic violence, parents trying to rebuild after bereavement, people living with long-term illness or mental health struggles, and those seeking asylum. Circumstances vary, but for many, they’ve just been given a property after a period of instability. While getting a roof over their head is a huge step forward, the homes they move into are often completely empty. No sofa. No bed. No duvet or pillows.
 
We step in with practical, compassionate support. That includes preloved clothing, donated furniture, and essential household items. In 2024, we distributed over 17,600 items of clothing to people across Warrington. Most was donated and passed directly on, with only underwear needing to be purchased.
 
But many of the most-needed household essentials, such as microwaves, kettles, hygiene and cleaning packs, pillows, and duvets, can’t be donated and must be bought. In total, we delivered 3,719 essential household items in 2024 alone. Right now, demand is so high we’re struggling to keep up.
 
While other services offer some support, none provide the same breadth of practical, essential items that we do. We are a unique service in our community, and without your support, we can’t continue this vital work.
