Young at Heart Skydive 25th June

I wanted to do this for Young at Heart, an amazing charity who have helped us so much in the last 5 years. Our son, Lennie, who's 5, was diagnosed shortly after birth with a condition called Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries (CCTGA) he had his 1st open heart surgery at 4 months old and then his big operation, the double switch, at 19 months old. He recovered really well from both, unfortunately 3 months after the switch he started to become unwell, after 6 weeks he still wasnt getting any better so we went to BCH for a check up only to be admitted straight to ward 12. The next day his consultant came and said there was nothing more surgically they could do and that he was in end stage heart failure, he was then put on a medication through an iv pump which meant we couldn't leave the hospital and he was assessed for transplant. On Xmas eve 2019 I got the call to say he had been accepted onto the transplant list. After 8-9 months of waiting in hospital we had another meeting where we were told that due to Lennies rare tissue type and high levels of antibodies finding a match was slim and for his body to not reject that match was even slimmer. After a few weeks of hard thinking we decided to take lennie off the list and try and enjoy his life, still remaining in hospital at that time. Then in October 2021 we were allowed to bring him home and make memories with him and his 2 brothers and sister. They told us if he survived that Xmas we would be lucky. Thankfully Lennie has defied the odds and is doing well on his medication at home. Young at Heart have been an amazing support to Lennie and our family, they have organised allsorts of special treats for lennie and always been a good support network for us all.
