My story

In August 2022 my life changed forever following situations I faced in my workplace, which after an exceptionally long battle to clear my name, changed my life and destroyed my career. Three years later I still hugely struggle with the trauma from it all. Therefore I decided on the third year tramaversary (trauma anniversary) to try and do something to turn my pain into something positive. A decision to do a number of treks and trails over the next at least year, in manageable bites to raise money for charity.

The charities I’ve chosen are PTSD UK which is a given with my own PTSD and trauma, it is the only charity in the UK dedicated to raising awareness of PTSD and c-PTSD. The other charity is 52 Lives, which is a less well known charity that every week, helps to change someone's life. Their aim is to inspire people to be kind. They believe kindness has the power to change lives and change the world, while improving our own well-being at the same time.

The current planned trails are
- Taff trail,   55 miles (currently in progress) Cardiff Barrage to Merthyr Tydfil completed!
- Cardiff Bay trail,    6 miles
- Essex Way,   81 miles. (Plan to walk this in summer 2026)
- Stour Valley Nature Path, Suffolk     60 miles.
- Gipping Valley Nature Path, Suffolk.    17 miles.
-   East Suffolk Lines Walk.   71 miles.

With more to add to the list as I find them.

My updates

After yesterday's walk I have now walked roughly 28 miles, from Cardiff Barrage to Merthyr Tydfil. I still have another 25ish miles left through Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons). The last section needs good planning given the terrain of the national park, the lack of easily train station accessibility on the route left which has been a main way of doing the different sections.

The nature along the taff trail has been beautiful as long as you open your eyes to spot it.

While I plan that section out I will be doing the 6 mile Cardiff bay circular and continue to find other accessible transport wise walks.

Taff Trail part 5

Quakers Yard to Merthyr. Now only the stretch through Bannau Brycheiniog to go.

12.6km distance
2:36:20 time

Taff Trail Part 4

I'm sure as I'm behind on uni work my lecturers would be annoyed I've spent my day doing this over catching up on uni work but something inside me knew I needed to do a long walk.

Every thing hurts. Tired before I even started, probably mental tiredness. It's been a tough 5 days, lots of trauma coming up with the employment tribunal bits going on at the moment. The pain during the walk was eased when I had no one around and was talking out loud about the trauma I've gone through.
Lots of
"How do I heal?
How do I stop it from ruining the rest of my life?
No wonder I'm 🤐 in the head, with all the gaslighting I experienced.
How do I ever believe life is going to get better?"

There is just a lot of trauma pain right now for me.

This was going to be a 4 mile stretch but decided to go further, which will mean another similar 7ish miles to Merthyr when I do the next stretch of the taff trail.

11.9km distance
2:39:00 time
13:01min/km speed

Taff Trail Part 3 - Taffs Well to Treforest

Another successful walk after a few days of a lot of trauma symptoms.

Quite an isolated route, small section that reminded me of walking around the estate back home. Lots of it not by the river.

9354m distance
1:58:47 time
12:26min/km speed

Taff Trail part 2

Cardiff Central to Taffs Well. Taking in the Principality stadium and Sophia gardens.

My feet and shoulders are in agony but super proud to have managed to do that stretch.

12.6km distance
2:55:28 time
12:20min/km speed

Worthy causes. I had not heard of 52 lives and I absolutely love this- to inspire kindness is one of the greatest things you can do, particularly with how the world is right now. Its also inspiring that you are pushing through adversity. Look forward to seeing your journey!
