Read moreIn October 2019, ten colleagues from Cory Logistics joined forces to raise money to help the victims of the Sri Lanka terrorist bombings. Here’s how they raised a whopping £7,000!
“Tragically our MD Peter Wilson lost his sister, niece and nephew in the Sri Lanka terrorist bombings on Easter Sunday 2019, so we really wanted to not only do something in their memory, but also raise money to help towards the people affected by this horrific incident. We researched different charities raising money and came across the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. We were drawn to the fact the money raised would go towards restoring family links, provide psychological first aid and wellbeing, creating self-help groups to help with grief and provide educational support for the children who lost their parents/guardians.
We knew that by picking a charity making such a tangible difference, we’d be motivated to push on beyond our target.
“We wanted to do something that would get everyone’s attention and be a courageous feat. We knew that if our challenge really was a challenge, people might be inclined to donate a little more. A few members of the team who jumped had always wanted to tick a skydive off their bucket lists, so we thought ‘why not’, plus it was for a great cause!
“We hosted 2 large events – a bake sale and a quiz night. These were not only great fun but we raised a lot of money! We held the bake sale in the foyer of our office and even had the help of another company in our building making some goodies too. On the quiz night, we also hosted a raffle of some amazing prizes and an auction which raised £1425 just in itself on the same night.
Advertise! “If you’re fundraising as a team, use the power of everyone’s social media to promote your events, share lots of photos and tap into everyone’s friends and family. Don’t forget to post about the event once it’s completed –people who missed out will want to know about your next event or may just donate online!
Don’t be afraid to ask for prizes. “We approached every company we could think of – both big and small! It was a real team effort and, once we shared the reason we were fundraising, people felt compelled to help.
Keep talking! “Don’t underestimate word of mouth – speak to anyone who will listen about the event and share the donation page with them. Whether it’s your neighbours, the old friend you bump into in the supermarket or parents on the school run, get the word out there!”
