About us

Beacon is a local mental health and wellbeing charity that has been part of the community in Stockport and Greater Manchester for 40 years. We deliver a whole range of mental health and wellbeing services in schools, online, in the community and from our base in the heart of Stockport. We support more than 3,000 adults, young people and children every year. We know you, and your community. And you, or someone you know, probably knows Beacon. We’re celebrating our 40th birthday this year with events and activities that create and celebrate connection. Because we are all connected!

Beacon is a dynamic and thoughtful organisation responding to the needs of our communities, having created innovative services to help tackle problems including suicide prevention and supporting young adults leaving the care system.

In summary, Beacon Counselling is an effective and innovative charity with a track record of delivering high quality services that are evidence based, effective, and targeted at the greatest need.

Stockport - Sale Rafted Canoe Charity Challenge

Event date: Saturday 14th May 2022

Canoe from Stockport through to Sale on a rafted Canoe on 14th May 2022 to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 9th-15th May.

Are you willing to wade the water for mental health awareness week? Venture Out Activity Centre are an official delivery partner for British canoeing and will be delivering a rafted canoeing challenge for Beacon as a fundraising challenge. No experience required by participants as river leaders & assistants will be on hand to help/guide through the journey.

Rafted canoes are two canoes joined by a raft, making them impossible to capsize. Participants need to come dressed for the weather on the day (quick drying sporty type clothes) as there will be some splash and a good chance of wet feet. All drinks and food must be provided by participants (or bought from the stops); this can be carried with the group in waterproof barrels or can be delivered by friends and family on route.

All participants will need to fill in a consent form prior to the activity. The event is fully insured by Venture Out in regards to safety during the activity and equipment, including buoyancy aid and helmets will be provided. All transport to and from the start and finish will need to be arranged by yourselves.

To register, contact joanne.watson@beacon-counselling.org.uk to secure your place.
