"In the same way that we have physical health to manage regularly, we all have mental health that requires our attention, fluctuating based on our personal circumstances, genetics and environment. Experiencing poor mental health can feel scary and isolating, especially in young people who frequently report feeling misunderstood and alone with their issues. Through working for Beacon Counselling, I have the rewarding opportunity to normalise the mental health challenges of children and young people. It is a privilege to facilitate the emotional growth of young people, building their confidence and enabling them to connect with those around them, re-engage in activities and find their passions. I am particularly passionate about supporting young people to speak their truth, alleviating shame.
Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder for each of us to check in with ourselves and loved ones, practicing what we preach. Building community and connection is a brilliant way to manage wellbeing, and following the impact of the pandemic, this challenge couldn't have come at a better time. I am excited to take to the Mersey alongside a fantastic group of colleagues - nothing like rowing at full speed over a fast flowing weirs to bond with the team!
Thank you for your ongoing support, we are very grateful for any donations.
