NeST - NEPHROTIC SYNDROME TRUST
Charity number: 1107601

Description:
Nephrotic syndrome is a condition caused by particular kidney diseases. These diseases cause leakage of proteins, the most important of which is albumin, from the blood stream into the urine. This results in reduced levels of albumin in the blood stream and swelling of the ankles and sometimes other parts of the body known as oedema as well as the increased level of albumin in the urine. Nephrotic syndrome in adults is rare (it effects approximately 1 person per 30,000 people per year) but it is an important type of kidney problem and there are many people with nephrotic syndrome seen in kidney outpatient clinics.
At NeST, we care because we understand. Our founders have the perfect balance of expertise and empathy and they know just how challenging it can be living with the condition yourself or caring for a child who has it. Over ten years ago, our founder David Yearsley felt isolated when his son James developed Nephrotic Syndrome as a child.
Fearing other people would feel this way, and dismayed at the lack of research into this syndrome, in 2005 he set out his vision: to give Nephrotic Syndrome a voice, educating people that were unfamiliar with the condition and helping people young and old, from all walks of life, cope better knowing all their options.
