Plan B operates along the South coast of the UK. Based in Gosport, Hampshire with reach across Southampton, Portsmouth, Havant and surrounding communities, aiming to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged young people aged 10–24 year-old who are currently:
- not succeeding in, nor engaging with, mainstream education.
- at risk of offending or being victims of crime themselves.
- not in education, employment or training.
Our core educational programmes deliver:
- Practical vocational training in our workshop - where students learn carpentry / boat building skills, as well as joinery for building and construction trades.
- Open Awards (an Awarding Organisation approved by Ofqual and an Access Validating Agency approved by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) )and SFLE (Skills for Further Learning and Employment
-As part of our daily programmes, our students learn to sail inshore and offshore vessels. They also take part in kayaking and paddle board activities alongside power boat driver training and on the water rowing. Plan B also has RYA (Royal Yachting Association) recognition and we give our young people the opportunity to follow the cruising scheme curriculum as an entry level into the commercial yachting side of the marine industry. There is also opportunity to take part in sailing events locally and further afield such as the Famous Round the Island race and Rolex Fastnet race.
-Social enterprise small business activities through designing, producing and selling items and accessories made from wood materials such as boats and oars as well as picture frames and children’s toys.
-Employability skills including how to be a successful employee and how to manage self employment including managing time, resources and budgeting.
