Alex B is raising money for Truro Foodbank, Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank, Tavistock Foodbank, Helston & The Lizard Foodbank and St Austell Foodbank
Hi there,
I’m going to cycle over 320km (200+ miles) to every single food bank in Cornwall, plus a quick stop over the Tamar to Tavistock Foodbank in Devon (my childhood hometown) in one day, and I’m doing it all to raise funds for them.
Due to the economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic it’s widely believed that we’re heading for the worst recession in the UK for 300 years! And as with most recessions, it’s likely to hit the poorest the hardest. Over the last few years food banks have become a lifeline for so many people in our society and with the way things are going, it’s likely that they will be needing all the help they can get. With that in mind I’m asking you to please donate what you can to help them out.
My route will be starting at Truro Foodbank and stopping along the way at food banks in; St Austell, Liskeard, Saltash, over the Tamar Bridge and up to Tavistock, before heading back to Cornwall and on to Callington, Launceston, Wadebridge, Helston and Falmouth/Penryn, before finishing back where it all began in Truro. See the full Strava route here - strava.com/routes/2718446088813974188
I’m planning to do the ride on the weekend of 25th July (weather dependent) and shall be filming little snippets and uploading them to my Instagram account along the way, so you can see how much I’m suffering towards the end (and along the way). I may even try to edit them together into a little video at the end.
A little about me and cycling. I started cycling just over a year ago (June 2019) and it has been great. I’ve seen more of Cornwall in the last 12 months than in the previous 12 years and I’m still finding new roads and places to explore. My fitness and mental wellbeing has gone through the roof and I’ve had some great adventures with friends new and old. This will be by far the longest ride I’ve attempted to date and I thought it would be a great challenge and method to help those in our society who really need it.
I can only list 5 food banks to donate to on here, so sorry to the ones I’ve missed out, but if it’s not listed here and/or, if you want to donate to your local foodbank elsewhere in the country please visit the Trussell Trust website for details- trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/
Thanks for taking the time to read this and many thanks for your donations. Small amounts really do go far and every little helps.

Wow, thank you so much to everyone who’s liked shared and donated so far! I’m incredibly grateful and never thought we’d raise this much! We’ve still got the best part of a week, can we push it to £2000!?
I’ve now been joined by my fellow Truro CC riders, Ollie Harrison (see his fundraising page here - donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/the-great-cornish-foodbank-challenge) and James Manthorp who have signed up to ride the full whack with me. We’re still planning to do the ride on Saturday the 25th, however this may change to Sunday 26th to make the most of the better weather forecasted for the Sunday.
Thanks again for all the donations, please keep sharing it, it would be amazing to see how much more we can raise.
Many thanks
Alex
