60 for 60 Tube Challenge

Event dates:

Deanne Gold & Martine Allen are raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leukaemia UK

Our story

On September 27th and 28th, we will be taking on a challenge to celebrate our 60th birthdays, which we are both celebrating this year. We are raising money for Motor Neurones Disease and Leukaemia Research as both of our families have been affected by these cruel illnesses. We will be visiting 60 London tube stations for our 60th birthdays - but this isn't just about reaching a milestone age. It's about honouring those that have suffered and those we've lost, and proving that strength can emerge from life's toughest moments."

What makes our challenge special? We're not just passing through 60 random stations - each one has been carefully chosen for its significance in our lives. We'll be getting off at every station, sharing why it matters, and filming our journey. Follow us in real-time on Instagram at #6060TubeChallenge for updates throughout both days!

The reason for me doing this fundraiser is 2-fold. Back in September 2023, I had a serious boat accident, which has left me with constant pain, long lasting mobility problems and PTSD that I’m still working on to overcome. Exactly a year later in September 2024, my mother-in-law got diagnosed with Motor Neurones disease and unfortunately passed away only 2 months later. The way she suffered was heartbreaking to watch and I never realised the effect it has on a person especially in their final months. So, as my 60th birthday approaches me this September, I could have chosen to mark it quietly, but instead I am choosing to step far outside my comfort zone and however long it takes, will complete this challenge

A bit about why Martine is doing this challenge – My husband Steve was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in February 2008 this came out of the blue and was diagnosed by a blood clot developing and bursting in his ear knocking out his hearing. With the thanks to Dr Mike Potter and the amazing team at the London Clinic Steve had intense treatment and medication which thankfully reversed the white blood cell count back to the normal level leaving Steve in ‘Lifetime Remission’. Steve now goes to the Royal Marsden for an annual health check and thank goodness is now very well. Sadly, there are so many families who are affected by this or other strains of Leukaemia which can be devastating.

This isn't just about visiting stations - it's about showing that recovery isn't linear, that courage can be found in unexpected places, and that you're never too old to push your boundaries.

There are so many charities that need support – but if you could please dig deep and donate whatever you can that would be so very appreciated. You can follow us on Instagram at 60.60tubechallenge and we will be posting several updates throughout the 2 days

Thank you for believing in us. Your support means more than you know. Here’s to new beginnings at 60!
