Ferdousi's Walk for Heba

Living circumstances were harder in the UK than what it would have been in Bangladesh as I lived in one room of a shared house with my husband and our baby. To invest in the future of our family we were ready to spend some years in hardship. However, being in the UK gave me independence to travel and go out to work.
Complications started as my baby started walking; he was very active and noisy. This resulted in housemates complaining. I took him out as much as possible and at home I used to play with him on the bed to minimise the noise. My son had delayed speech for which I took him to the doctor and I learnt he had learning difficulties and behavioural problems. I was glad to be able to see an educational therapist for my son because in Bangladesh there wouldn?t have been such help. To help myself and to communicate with my son, I enrolled in English classes at Heba. This has supported my relationship with my son.
At Heba, there was a lot more than English classes. I met lots of new people from different backgrounds and made friends. I learnt to share my problems with fellow students and received support from my teachers. Life is much better. My son has settled down well and I feel good about myself and can start to think about my future. My plan is to continue English and computer skills with Heba till I?m ready to work.
