Jodie Wigley is raising money for Charcot-Marie-Tooth UK
Event dates: 11th October 2017 – 25th August 2018
Thanks for visiting my page.
3 years ago my wonderful Dad got diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-tooth (CMT). You will be forgiven for not knowing what this is as we had never heard of it either. It's the most common neurological condition that no one has ever heard of!
It effect the nerves in your hands, feet, arms and legs, causes muscles to die, extreme pain, loss of use of limbs and changes lives. The lives of the effected and their families.
Some people are effected from birth, others like my Dad aren't diagnosed until much later.
My Dad is a fit health man. Carpenter by trade, husband, father for 3 grown up kids, grandad of 4. His life and dreams have been shattered. As a dad he was amazing. Spent hours with me swimming in pools and the sea, rolled around on the floor playing with me and my brothers, playing football with us. Everything an amazing dad does. He is now unable to do these things with his grandad children because CMT. He can no longer balance on one leg, and struggles to stand on 2 without support. He uses a walking stick. He can no longer swim due to the pain in his feet and muscle waste in his leg. He has been married for over 35 years, never taking his wedding ring off but due to the pain in his fingers his ring has been cut off.
My Dad is 59. Just 59. CMT takes so much away.
The type of CMT by dad has is heredity. His 3 children may be effected by this or be carriers. My 2 son could be effected by CMT aswel as my nephew.
CMT is not well known so therefore doesn't receive a lot of charitable donations for vital research to maybe one day finding a cure! Funding for support groups for people effected.
I am training to a sponsored 5 mile swim in my local pool. That's 330 lengths to be completely in one day. I'm unfit people! Overweight. This is a huge challenge for me, but my dad faces challenges he can't control every day and he fights on. My dad is a survivor and makes me so proud, so I'm doing this for him, and the future of my boys.
Please give whatever you can to such a worthwhile cause.
