Lean on Me 84 mile suicide awareness run

Event date: 10th September 2023

Chris Young is raising money for Carlisle Eden Mind Limited

My story

On the 10th of September I am going to be embarking on my longest and most challenging run to date. All with the aim of raising awareness of mental illness and the catastrophic figures surrounding suicide in the UK.

The reason for running 84 miles is that is the same number of men that lose their life to suicide in the UK. A truly devastating and heartbreaking reality. I will also be bringing figures surrounding women’s suicide figures and attempts as these are equally as devastating.

Why is the run called lean on me? Having listened to Bill Withers song “Lean on me” I fell in love with the power of the song and the lyrics and meaning behind them. Put the song on, give it a true listen and it will resonate with just about anyone. We ALL need to call on a brother (or sister) at some point in our lives and this challenge is all about letting people know that there is light even in the darkest of times. There is ALWAYS hope and there is ALWAYS another way ❤️.
