Liam McAllister Byrne is raising money for The Lord's Taverners
I ran this event first in 2014 and believe me, it’s not lost on me that most of the you now reading the brief have witnessed me rattling the same bucket many times before…
Since that first rodeo, my understanding of how the Lord’s Taverners use the money raised in this event to change lives, to bring happiness and progression by putting exercise, health and competition in young hearts has grown so much.
Most recently that centres on Khayam Nawaz. This hero is the Head Coach of the Wicketz hub in Luton, my hometown, where top notch sessions are delivered FOR FREE to many many children throughout the year in mostly South Asian communities. The Lord’s Taverners fund this and your money, hopefully lots of it, will contribute to this roaring success.
I run for him. Not just on D-Day, which is 42km of tarmac ahead, on April 21st, but in the wet and the cold. In winter training, chalking up more like 400km, alone or with a pal, no crowd, no medal and no glory!
For K to keep doing what he’s brilliant at, I need to once again ask you to donate; to find £20, £30 or £50 to drop here and in return I am doing my bit. Believe me, it gets harder every time because I know how dreadful it feels to keep hitting the deck after 3 or 4 hours very well, whatever the conditions and the days after walking like a pensioner keep me up at night.
SEND MONEY PLEASE 🙏🏻
……………………………………………….
On a personal note, thank you and I really really appreciate any contribution, support or well wishes.
My two young sons will be at the finish line and as they grow, this race and all that it takes from me feels like a worthy lesson for them to get on so many levels. Life could be so much harder… we are lucky… with a reasonably healthy body, we can put it to work to benefit others and smile wide whilst doing it. I put them in the shoes of the children that the TAVS help country-wide and it is more fuel for the fire, so many young girls and boys need support like this and whilst this is not a life & death charity, it’s still so so important and deserves attention.
I run for them too.
Khayam, Harris & Connell - let’s rock!
