Michaela and Mark McMillan are raising money for DEBRA
Event date: 23rd April 2023
Anyone who knows us well, knows we love running, but The London Marathon has never been on my bucket list of things to do, but it has been on Michaela’s and when she secured a place in the ballot I decided to tag along and we were then fortunate to be accepted to run for the amazing charity DEBRA of which we have both been members for several years.
This is an incredibly personal charity to us, which needs funding for research for a cure and treatments of EB (epidermolysis bullosa) and which has recently provided support to our family.
It’s a genetic disorder and is personal to us because I’m a sufferer as are both my daughters and as was my Mum and Grandmother, albeit we have a mild version. Michaela has also taught a pupil, with an extreme version so has seen first hand how devastating the condition truly can be.
The mild version we have in our family (EB Simplex) mainly means easy blistering of feet (and hands), so running a marathon is not recommended !! Particularly in the warmer months, we can have multiple blisters at any one time which need pricking, bathing, bandaging and even simple tasks such as putting on shoes and walking can be challenging and very painful. Michaela and I are fortunate to have this opportunity to raise money for DEBRA and will be thinking about all the EB sufferers every step of the way.
Any donation you feel able to make towards funding research and a cure would be grateful received and really appreciated by us and DEBRA. Thanks for taking the time to read and thanks for any contributions, it really does make a difference. Michaela and Mark
Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto DEBRA.
