My story
I'm really looking forward to taking on my second pretty hefty challenge of the year!
After running the London Marathon in April I'm hoping I'll still have enough residual fitness to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in October!
Kili is a dormant volcano in Tanzania and, at almost 6000m above sea level, is the highest mountain in Africa.
My cousin Mick and his wife Sarah (and daughter Sian) lost their lovely son Oliver three years ago this Christmas. He was just 32 years old.
Oliver had Epidermolysis Bullosa - EB - a rare, extremely painful, genetic skin blistering condition, also known as ‘Butterfly Skin.’ EB causes the skin to become very fragile and tear or blister at the slightest touch.
DEBRA is a national charity and patient support organisation for people living with EB. They were incredibly supportive to the Thomas family throughout Oliver's life. Mick remains a trustee of the charity.
