Swansea Half Marathon 07.06.26

This June, I will be running the Swansea Half Marathon for the Welsh Ambulance Services Charity. This will be my first half marathon! 

As a staff member of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS University Trust since 2021, I have seen the huge difference the Welsh Ambulance Services Charity has made for not only patients but for staff and volunteers, all across Wales. 

Donations support the Wish Ambulance Service, an incredible project run by the Welsh Ambulance Charity, which is delivered entirely by WAST staff who volunteer their own spare time. It helps people nearing the end of their lives to have one last wish fulfilled, helping them make a safe, meaningful journey to a place that matters to them. The stories and journeys that staff have volunteered to help, like a visit to a favourite beach or place with their family one last time, or to attend a family wedding that they wouldn't be able to do on their own, really does bring a lump to your throat, hearing how special that emotional journey is and how much it impacts the patient and their family and friends, enabling that precious memory.

Donations also support our amazing volunteer Community First Responders and Community Welfare Responders to access training and equipment allowing them to attend appropriate 999 calls in their local communities. Donations also support our staff wellbeing when they need it after demanding or traumatic experiences in their role.

Having only run a 10k on two occasions in 2025 (having no running experience before that), completing the Swansea Half Marathon is a challenge for me. I have my training plan to follow and look forward to the day, running with some fellow colleagues, with fingers crossed for fine running weather.
