Description:
APAP is a registered charity with a mission to help break the cycle of homelessness. We run the Enfield and Haringey Homeless Respite Service. We aim to build the person to have increased confidence, self-worth and self-esteem as we walk them through the myriad of difficult service they need to interact with.
We work with the most marginalised groups in Haringey and Enfield who are homeless, including those with no recourse to public funds from many places i.e. who are destitute with no rights to income and/or work and hence housing. In 2017-18, we helped 48 people and 35 of those had a positive move-on. 19 of the 48 had no recourse to funding i.e. no income, some with no rights to work or housing.
Our personalised service to the most marginalised people is provided by the professional service at the core of the charity harnessing over 15000 volunteer hours in the community.
We started offering daytime services four years ago moving away from offering shelter only with no limit on the length of stay. This is so that people are not just churned around homeless provisions with inadequate outcomes. In 2016, we developed Project Light offering a fine-tuned and very simple Pathway Plan, with no limit on the length of stay. Service Users set their goals and we plan who will help them and how. It is this personalised and coordinated approach that is lacking in many organisations. In addition, we respond every day to enquires - people who are homeless are homeless for 7 days per week, so APAP is too.
