Iain Edmondson is raising money for LYR
Rowing has the power the change people’s lives and we believe that everyone is capable of achieving their potential given the right opportunity.
LYR is a youth charity that motivates, inspires, and empowers young people from disadvantaged communities through the life skills gained from Rowing. LYR enables those who sit on the side-lines at PE to get active, find positive social groups and develop essential life skills that rowing nurtures. LYR's aim is the help students break through glass ceilings and achieve their potential through developing their life skills and demonstrating how valuable they are.
A motley crew from Black Sheep Rowing Club (Iain, Paul, Mike, Joe, James, Ian, Phil and Duncan) are taking up LYR's virtual "Race the Thames" challenge of rowing the distance of the length of the River Thames (346km) on rowing machines.
Thank you for any donation - it all goes straight to LYR, and it will keep us motivated as the legs get tireder and the backs get stiffer!
You can track our progress and see some other fun content from the teams participating at https://www.racethethames.com/virtual
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto LYR.

Many thanks to everyone who donated. We finished the challenge in the fasted average pace (1’51.7” for those in the know) and over £73,000 was raised for charity by all teams.
LYR recently did an economic evaluation of the impact of activity in East London showing every £1 spent had an impact worth £40 on the lives of local participants. That makes our effort worth around £37,000 to less advanced kids.
