I was 19 years old first baby and wow when a journey I had. Everyone says it is amazing to be pregnant but not in my case.
My little boy didn’t grow much or move so at 34+5 weeks old I had to have an emergency C-Section has he had an irregular heart beat. I was admitted into hospital on New Year’s Eve I remember watching the fireworks crying down the phone to family and friends. On the 2nd January I had a scan at 10am and Leo hadn’t grow much from the time before my fluid levels where bad and the placenta wasn’t doing it’s job properly so at 15:02 leo was born but needed help. He was rushed to special care and put on oxygen. I saw him over facetime as I was in recovery afterwards. Leo was 3 days old when I got to hold him and what an experience. Their was an amazing nurse who helped he so much and I will always remember her and the way she spoke to me and reassured me I can do it. Your stronger than you think she said.
2 years later I fell pregnant again. I thought here we go again but it started ok scans were good until I hit about half way. She stopped growing, fluids levels were up and down like a yo-yo and the placenta was and then wasn’t working the way it should. So I became monitored every other day. More scans, it got to 36+6 and I had another C-Section but this time it was worse. My baby girl was resuscitated twice and put on oxygen set to special care. 2 days old she was at her worse so they tubes her making the machine breathe for her. Scary is an understatement. The wondering if your baby is going to make it. 3 days old she was sent to Exeter special care as they had the better equipment to deal with Nanci’s needs. She was about a week old before we got to hold her. We had amazing nurses and online support due to covid from the charity Snug. They help with tips and tricks I call it. Ways of caring for you and baby. How do you feel? How are you? Are you coping? Here to listen? All things they say. Without them I really don’t know where I would be as it is a community of mums and dads that have been in your situation.
Both of my children now are so beautiful and health. Leo’s at school Nanci starts school soon. They adore each other so much.
