"Our Life Skills program is delivered through LYR’s Active Row which reaches over 5,000 young people from London, Leeds, and Nottingham.  Our measure of success is for our young people to be engaged in activity and develop life skills transferable to all aspects of life.   

Each one of our sessions strives to educate young people on one of the five life skills: aiming high, staying positive, teamwork, problem solving and leadership. This includes programmes that develop our team of coaches, helping to build a generation of skilled rowing coaches with a mindset focused on making rowing, and sport in general, more inclusive. Through our coach development program, we teach the importance of these skills and ways to incorporate them into rowing sessions, allowing the coaches to use their own creativity to adapt their sessions and ingrate these learnings.  

LYR uses the Skills Builder framework to structure, track and reflect this development, with students focusing on developing a key life each school half term.  In addition, pupils at schools on the Active Row programme can take part in termly skills development and employability workshops run with LYR's corporate partners. This is a key aspect to demonstrate how essential these skills are used in the working world. We aim to link our empowered and motivated students with companies who can inspire them to seek successful careers and reach their potential.   We also produce video content relating to careers and key skills on the LYR Life Skills portal."
