Zac’s Big BaNES 100k Challenge

Event dates:

Zac Legge is raising money for Mentoring Plus and Off The Record - Bath & North East Somerset

My story

Hi, I’m Zac and I’m taking part in the Big BaNES 100k.

I’ll be completing 100km over the summer in a mix of walking and swimming. It’s something I couldn’t have imagined doing this time last year.

In early 2023, I had a serious knee injury while trampolining competitively. It caused permanent nerve damage and left me with foot drop, which means I’ve had to adapt how I move and go through intensive rehab. It’s been a long recovery, and I still have further surgery planned during my gap year.

Taking on this challenge is a way to mark the progress I’ve made — and to raise money for two organisations that provide vital support to other young people facing tough times.

Zac

My updates

I’ve completed the Big BaNES 100k Challenge!! 🎉

This has been so much more than just reaching 100 km. After my injury earlier last year and with another operation now just around the corner, this challenge came at exactly the right time. It gave me the chance to push myself and build strength in my leg.

From long walks, swims and rowing to the simple joy of dog walks that became part of the journey. Each step reminded me how far I’ve come in my recovery.

I’m incredibly proud to have raised £320 for two amazing charities, and I can’t thank you all enough for the encouragement and generosity.

97 km completed!!!
Over the past two weeks, I’ve added another 36.5 km to my total. Most of this was from long coastal walks in Cancale - some of them tough, but manageable - as well as a few refreshing sea swims!

I also received an update on my next operation, which is now scheduled for the 7th of October, just a couple of weeks away. This challenge couldn’t have come at a better time - it’s pushed me to complete the distance while also helping me get my leg as strong as possible before surgery.

Tomorrow, I’ll finish the challenge on a peaceful dog walk. I’m so proud to have raised £250 for such an important charities which mean a lot to me, and I’m so grateful for everyone’s support in helping make this possible.

60.5km Completed.
Over the last few weeks I have added another 28km to my overall total! - I have been experiencing some pain in my leg these weeks so I have focused on lots of walking including taking part in a Bath 5km Map walk which was incredible. As well as multiple kilometres on the rowing machine in the gym!
Thank-you everyone for the continued support!

32.5 km completed!

In the past two weeks, I’ve added another 17.25 km to my challenge.
This came from plenty of dog walks, some longer walks while away in Budapest, and even 1.5 km in the pool - including a 1 km swim in one go, which is my longest since the injury.

The next four weeks are going to be busy as I keep pushing to reach 100 km before the end of September.

Thank you so much for all your support, it really keeps me going!

10.75km - Done in the last week or so!

This included multiple dog walks but also a few static rowing sessions in the gym of a few kilometres. As well being taken out on a actual boat on the river in Oxford which was incredible!!

Also includes my first proper swim since my accident at vobster quay which was around 750m.

Thanks again for all the donations, I said it before but it really does mean the world to me!

Overall is now at 15.75km
